World congratulates Rafael Nadal on historic Grand Slam title No. 21
Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rod Laver and more took to social media to celebrate the Spaniard's incredible feat.
Five hours and 24 minutes, the second longest Grand Slam final in the history of the game. Sunday's Australian Open men's final between No. 2 seed Daniil Medvedev and No. 6 seed Rafael Nadal was one for the history books. The Russian took a two sets to nothing lead and it appeared as if he would stop another Big 3 member from capturing major title No. 21. But the world was reminded why the Spaniard is a champion, his no quit attitude and will to win no matter the scoreline was the biggest takeaway from the affair.
Nadal erased Medvedev's two set lead and came back to post 2-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 triumph. For the first time in his career he managed to come back from two sets down in a Slam final. During the on-court trophy presentation, Nadal confessed it was one of the most emotional matches of his career.
"It has been one of the most emotional matches of my tennis career and to share the court with you is just an honor," Nadal said to Medvedev who he believes will grab a couple of Australian Open titles during his career.
A historic accomplishment for Nadal as he now holds the most major titles on the men's side, secured in the most surreal way. With that being said, the world flocked to social media to congratulate the 21-time Grand Slam champion.
