WTA Elite Trophy gets underway in Zhuhai

Action at the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai began on Tuesday. The field features 12 players that lie just below the field that qualified for the WTA Finals in Shenzhen.

The top seed is Kiki Bertens, who began with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Donna Vekic.

Wild card Zheng Saisai made good on her entry by upsetting No. 3 seed Madison Keys, 6-4, 6-2.

The third singles match of Day 1 witnessed Aryna Sabalenka top Maria Sakkari, 6-3, 6-4.

Dayana Yastremska is in the same group (Azalea) with Bertens and Vekic.

Camelia Group has two Americans, Sofia Kenin and Alison Riske, along with Karolina Muchova.

Petra Martic rounds of Keys and Zheng's Orchid group.

And Sabalenka and Sakkari's Rose group is topped off with Elise Mertens.

The WTA Elite Trophy runs Tuesday to Sunday.
