WTA Finals Day 4: Gauff vs. Paolini and Sabalenka vs. Pegula | Where to Watch
The Stefanie Graf Group is back in action with a possible spot in the semifinals on the line.

Coco Gauff vs. Jasmine Paolini
🤜 Head to Head: Tied 3-3 (Paolini 3-1 in 2025)
- Gauff d. Paolini 6-4, 6-3—Wuhan semifinals
- Paolini d. Gauff 2-6, 6-4, 6-3—Cincinnati quarterfinals
- Paolini d. Gauff 6-4, 6-2—Rome final
- Paolini d. Gauff 6-4, 6-3—Stuttgart quarterfinals
After taking losses in their opening matches, it’s must-win time for Gauff and Paolini if either wants a chance of making it out of the Stefanie Graf group. Gauff lost a tight three-setter to Jessica Pegula in her opening match, donating 17 double faults and 45 forehand unforced errors. Paolini was steamrolled by Aryna Sabalenka who fired 11 aces and needed just over an hour to complete the straight-sets victory.
Gauff has shown a remarkable ability to hit the reset button after a shaky match, and Paolini is sure to test the American’s resolve. The two played a few weeks ago in Wuhan, with Gauff getting her lone victory in four tries this year against the Italian. That match featured a run of 11 consecutive breaks of serve.
Whichever player can protect her serve and manage her nerves will keep her Riyadh effort alive.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Jessica Pegula
🤜 Head to Head: Sabalenka leads 8-3 (2-1 in 2025)
- Pegula d. Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(2)—Wuhan semifinals
- Sabalenka d. Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-4—US Open semifinals
- Sabalenka d. Pegula 7-5, 6-2—Miami finals
Sabalenka looked every bit the top seed with her convincing opening win over Paolini. After the match she said: “I’m getting better and better every day.” A scary proposition for her competition. A win over Pegula will put Sabalenka in prime position to secure a semifinals berth and a chance at her first WTA Finals title.
However, Sabalenka’s most recent defeat came at the hands of Pegula last month in Wuhan. For the American to pull off a second consecutive win—and likely her own spot in the semifinals—she will do well to tidy up her form from her uneven opening win against Gauff. Sabalenka is unlikely to be as charitable, so Pegula needs to bring her A-game to disrupt Sabalenka’s serving rhythm and take the early advantage in baseline exchanges.
